Cakes with figures I thought were made in my dreams until I come across some advertising recommendations for baking on social media. For someone who loveeeed animation characters so much that I wanted to lovingly bite them off, fondant edible Nemos and Winnie the Poohs looked heavenly! And then I found a much “followed and recommended” Fondant Expert charging a heavy price for my son’s first birthday cake. As my husband and I still call each other Boo and Kitty from the animated movie Monsters Inc. (We fell in love by watching animation movies together ♥), we chose the same theme.
After much ado that she doesn’t take such small orders (2.5kg btw), the “expert” took my order and when I went to collect the cake I was shattered seeing the outcome. Blue-green double colored fondant cover requested was blue-green single tint, a flat cake with Boo, Kitty and Mike (who really looked liked hideous monsters) and some fondant ribbons/stars, all on cake picks thrown loose into the cake box. I drove back crying and thinking how to set this thing up. When I put up all the figures, the cake was no way nearer in appearance to any that the expert showed off on social media.
And the relatives felt ominous when I setup the cake with Kitty and Mike showing oftheir gory teeth… “Waste” was comment for the insane price and average taste. The dull appearance showed the expert’s minimal efforts for my order…
So I came back to Singapore and decided to try baking on my own. Soft and tasty cakes and cupcakes came with the right recipes from the internet. Coincidentally, all that my son wanted for his second birthday was a cake and I decided to make an “Undersea” themed cake! Poon Huat Singapore sells all the baking things you need and more, so there was no stopping me!
With help of fondant tutorials posted online by good hearts, I slowly prepared the magical undersea creatures, one by one! The final outcome was unbelievable to me… And seeing the joy in my son’s eyes, hearing the praises of my friends who tasted the cake, I felt at peace!
Any art is interest with dedication!
